Passed away peacefully in the presence of her immediate family

on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, South Australia on February 4, 2024.


Dearly beloved wife of Gordon Smart (deceased).


Daughter of Lily Woodforde and Thomas O’Donoghue (both deceased).


Cherished sister of Eileen, Geoffrey, Violet, Amy and Bee Bee (all deceased), and extended Anangu families.


Loved Auntie to many nieces and nephews

Much loved Nana to many great nieces, nephews and grandchildren


and


A friend loved and remembered fondly by many.


Dr O’Donoghue will be forever loved, admired and respected,

by all her family, friends, and former colleagues.


The legacy of Dr O’Donoghue’s trailblazing lifelong work

for the rights, education, health and wellbeing of

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,

will live on as Australia honours her achievements and recognises her as

‘The greatest Aboriginal leader of the modern era’.


Our family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank the medical staff

for their advocacy and extraordinary care of Dr O’Donoghue over many years.
