CAIAFA, Michael John (Mike)

8th April 1933- 24th January 2024

Mike passed away peacefully, aged 90, on the morning of 24th January, after a short, but severely debilitating illness.

He was at peace, when he passed away, surrounded by family members.

Since late 2021, together with his wife, Jan, Mike has been in the compassionate care of Berengarra Aged Care facility in Kew.

Jan passed away in December 2022, and Mike did not ever get over Jan’s passing. It does give the family some comfort knowing that they are with each other, again.

Much loved and cherished by his four sons, Anthony, Michael, Peter, and David.

Caring father in law to Alison, Connie and Bless and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Alana and Nicholas.

Mike had an unending devotion to his children and extended family. He will be remembered for his sporting achievements both on and off the field. He played for Fitzroy Football Club in the 1950’s, and then worked with players and coaches of Fitzroy, Richmond, West Coast Eagles and Carlton Football Clubs. He was also highly committed to his work at the Board of Works, and immensely loyal to friends and colleagues. He was also very generous with his time and would go out of his way to help those around him.

Mike kept up a strict fitness regime, well into his late eighties, and was the pin-up boy for Berengarra Aged Care, teaching residents how to box and improve their co-ordination and mobility, as well as running early morning exercise classes for the aged care staff. He would try to walk/run up to 2 hours every day and would even walk the corridors of Berengarra, when the weather outside was inclement.

He was well liked and respected by both the residents and the staff at Berengarra.

Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A private family funeral will be held for Mike according to his wishes.
