Tribute to the greatest romantic movie quotes of all time

Published: 8/2/2023

"Love is like oxygen! Love is a many-splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love!" Moulin Rouge

Love and romance has been the heartbeat of cinematic storytelling for many generations. From the grand declarations of love to the intimate whispers of affection, some of the most memorable moments in romantic movie history have come from the tender words exchanged between characters.

Words have the power to stay with us long after our first ever kiss inside the cinema, long after the credits roll and all that's left are empty popcorn boxes. They stay with us; and although romantic situations like these don't always happen in our lives, at least we can pretend they do for 90 minutes.

So get comfortable, grab some tissues and join us on a journey back through some of the greatest romantic movie quotes of all time.

"Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you."  Titanic (1997)

"I will return. I will find you. Love you. Marry you. And live without shame." Atonement (2007)

"I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss of her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One." City of Angels (1998)

"So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard, and we're gonna have to work at this every day. But I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me. Every day." The Notebook (2004)

"I was looking up… it was the nearest thing to heaven! You were there…" An Affair to Remember (1957)

You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you." The Last of the Mohicans (1992).

So, I realise this comes at a very inopportune time but I really have this gigantic favour to ask of you. Choose me. Marry me. Let me make you happy. Oh, that sounds like three favours, doesn't it?" My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)

"I could die right now, Clem. I'm just... happy. I've never felt that before. I'm just exactly where I want to be." Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Known someone that could level you with her eyes, feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn't know what it's like to be her angel, to have that love for her, be there forever, through anything…" Good Will Hunting (1997)

But, but, when two people know that, and they decide with eyes wide open to face each other and get married anyway, then I don't think it's conservative or delusional. I think it's radical and courageous and very romantic." Frida (2002)

"I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone." Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
