Dr Mark O'Brien

It is with great sadness that I have learned of the death of Dr Mark O'Brien.

Dr O'Brien performed open heart surgery on me on 2 June, 1970. I was 11 years old. He saved my life. He has been my hero for all of my life. I will never forget his kindness and reassurance. My parents and I placed our complete trust in him, and with his skill and knowledge he delivered me safely through the surgery and on the road to recovery.

In the years following my surgery I would sometimes hear Mark's name mentioned. Cardiologists who have looked after me over the last ten years knew his name and his legendary contribution to cardiology.

I feel blessed that he was my doctor, and even though it is many years since I last saw him, I will miss him. Vale, Dr O'Brien.
