The Language of Us
Doris Falidis-Nickolas’ poetry beautifully captures love, loss, and remembrance, offering comfort to those navigating grief.
Aisling McLennan, who immigrated to Australia in 1983 from England made her home in Queensland from her arrival, initially in Townsville, and then in Brisbane to continue her chosen profession as a teacher of children with disabilities or special needs, as these were called. It was a calling she had followed from her earliest days in teaching in Birmingham, Bristol and East London.
Aisling survived her husband Peter Roland McLennan, from whom she was separated. Sadly, she also survived their son Matthew Hamilton McLennan (11.2.1984 -18.4.2020) who passed suddenly and unexpectedly.
Aisling suffered poor health in her later years, but this did not stop her visiting family and friends in the UK, Europe and Ethiopia or welcoming visits from them. She was unfailingly kind and had an enviably unflappable character, even when her ill-health confined her to her last home in Boondall. She passed away in the Prince Charles Hospital, under whose care she had long been.
A service for her will be held at George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals Aspley Chapel (782 Zillmere Road, Aspley) on Friday 25th March 2022 at 10.00am. Anyone who wishes to pay their respects in person would be very welcome to attend and to celebrate Aisling’s life and share their memories of her with her family and friends after the service.
