Memory Eternal
VASILOPOULOS, Panagiotis (Peter)
Born on October 22, 1931,
Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (Peter) grew up in Charakopio, Peloponnese, Greece,
the fourth child of six children to parents Fotios and Lambrini Vasilopoulos.
Passed away in Adelaide S.A on May 15, 2019.
Aged 87 years.
Much loved and devoted husband of Maria (deceased).
Loved and cherished father and father in law of: Anita and Theo Vlassis, Dina and Peter Totsikas, Despo and Kerry Tsafaras, Spiro and Jeffrey.
Adored Pappou of Vanessa and Pantelis, Maree and Elias, Samantha, Leigh, Natalia and Michael, Marie, Chloe, Nathan and pro-pappou of Rosie, Anita, George, Peter, Valentina, Theodore, Phoenix and Raphael.
Lovingly remembered by his sister, brother, extended family and friends in Australia, Greece and Canada.
It was a mild summer’s afternoon in Athens, the sound of the cicadas echoed from the walls of the Parthenon. Peter yelled from the street, ’Maria, are you ready?’ Suddenly a thud as the door flung open from apartment 22, Maria leapt from the sixth step into his arms and said, ’here I am my love, oh how I’ve missed you!’ Peter started smiling in a slightly cheeky way and stared at Maria as if he had something to say. Maria asks, ’why are you smiling?’ Peter replies, ’Maria mou, have you heard of a place called Australia?’ The most beautiful love story now has the greatest ending.
Our Dad and Pappou, we sit here tonight, your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren reminiscing on all that you brought into our lives. As much as we are going to miss you, we are at peace and happy knowing that you have finally been reunited with your one true love, our mum and Yiayia.
Through laughter, tears and warm reflection, the stories we share together represent the essence of who you were, not only to us, but also to everyone who knew, respected and adored you.
Together with mum you laid the foundations of our home, created a beautiful family and established a proud legacy that spans four generations. You bestowed upon us the gift of giving, the gift of unconditional love, and the joy in sharing all that you had with others. A true gentleman, no one can forget your smart dress sense, quick wit, afternoon chats about the Crows, captivating storytelling and generosity, which included sharing your home-grown goodies (especially your iconic Kalamata olives!) with us all.
There are so many qualities that made you the incredible man you were, but undeniably the unwavering love, companionship and devotion you had for your darling wife, day in and day out, personified what true love is.
The phrases ’palikari’, ’koritsi mou’ and ’I love you darli mou’ will never be the same without you. We love you dad, you will forever be in our hearts and like the stories you once told, your memory will live on through the stories we will lovingly share of you.
No words can explain how I miss you Dad. Our home, which was always filled with your endless love and generosity, is now empty and bare; it isn’t home anymore. Not only were you my father, but my best friend. The hole that you have left in my heart will never mend until I meet you and Mum again, I will love and miss you every day Dad. Forever in my heart, your son Jeffrey
Our sincere thanks to Dr. Kerry Vlahos for all the care and support you provided to Dad over the years.
