SCERRI, Mary

Mary Scerri, 78, of Christies Beach, passed away on April 4th, 2023 due to complications following major surgery.

Mary was born on September 23rd, 1944 to Peter and Riccard Muscat on the island of Malta. She had a joyful childhood. Though simple and without luxury she was rich in family, loved by her parents and her younger siblings; Carmen, Anna, Mario, Doris and Twanny.

In 1963, she met the love of her life, Joseph Scerri, and they wed in 1964. They embarked on a grand adventure together moving to Australia as modern day pioneers facing their new life with courage and hope.

In December 1964 their first child was born, Simon followed by Tanya in 1966 and Sonia. Her children became the centre of her world and she devoted her whole life to providing them love and patient support no matter the problems.

Mary loved God and Jesus more than life itself and was active in the church her entire life, her works and kindness a shining example to all around her. She also loved cooking and was ecstatically happy to see people eating and relishing her dishes. She travelled to many countries and was truly a global person, able to understand, empathise and converse with anyone no matter their country, creed or beliefs.

Mary is survived by her adoring husband Joseph and her three loving children, Simon, Tanya and Sonia. Also her Grandchildren and their partners, Tristan, Deepa, Ethan, Brannan, Jacob, Vicky, Salome and Joel. There are not enough words to list her extended Maltese family. They number in the dozens and feel her passing just as keenly as we do at home. Her sisters and brothers are Carmen, Anna and Twanny. She is predeceased by her beloved brother and sister, Mario (RIP) and Doris (RIP)
