The Language of Us
Doris Falidis-Nickolas’ poetry beautifully captures love, loss, and remembrance, offering comfort to those navigating grief.
Dearest Mama,
You and Dad touched so many lives, and made so many memories through the community and the church; it made me so proud to have you as my mother.
The most important things in your life were your family, your Church, and your garden.
You cherished your family and worked hard to provide for us. You gave us so much, and always put us first. I wish more people could have recognised the sacrifices you made, and your ongoing love.
Mama, you were full of empathy, you were kind and hopeful. And yet, in adversity, you were stoic; enduring and overcoming the challenges of life without complaint. You were a mentor to me, and your wisdom continues to guide me every day.
It was an honour for James, Theo, and I to care for you and support you in your own home, surrounded by your garden, and all the treasured memories of your life.
I want to thank all the people who were involved in your care, from your neighbours and friends in the community, to your companions, doctors, and nurses who were with us every step of the way.
A special thank you to Fr. Pandeleimon from the St Constantine & Helen Church, and Fr Dimitri for their visits and prayers.
My dearest Mama, your life on this earth has ended – may your eternal life with the Lord give you everlasting peace. You will be in our hearts and minds forever.
Your loving daughter,
Dora
