NICHOLES. - Stanley John OAM 17.05.1919 - 24.06.2010 Much loved son of John Amos (dec.) and Bertha Amelia (dec.). Younger brother to Norman (dec.) and George (dec.). Husband of Betty (dec.) and Lyn (dec.) and good friend to Ann. Beloved father of Beverley, (Stanley) Robin, Bruce, Joy, Janet and Peter. Father-in-law to Alan, Marion, Rosemarie, Barry and Karen. Adored grandfather of Ashly, Jane, Brendan, Sally, Mandy, Bradley, Daryn, Kelly, Jayson, Scott (dec.), Hayley, Jonathan, Emma, Sarah, Elizabeth, Robert, Caleb, Rees, Amelia. Proud great grandfather of Jacob, Chloe, Emma, William, Alyssa, Ashley, Scott, Kyle, Aaron, Luke, Rebekah, Kyra, Ryan, Jadzia, Michael, Joshua, Jackson, James, Lauren, Charlie and Lewis. A medical orderly with Radar unit 349 in the Air Force in Papua New Guinea; Stan returned from WW2 to become an Australian weight lifting champion and a major pioneer of the application of weight training and conditioning of athletes around the world. Stan was devoted to assisting young and mature sports people in many fields including the Australian Davis Cup Tennis, Australian and international rowing, surf life saving, AFL football and weight lifting. To his friends and family, Stan was an inspiration who challenged all to show strength and great character and to draw out the best in people.
