McKAY, Darren.

Publication: Centralian Advocate
Date Listed: 12/4/2017

McKAY, Darren.Darren and his beautiful family (the McKay's) have been friends of our family for over 50 years. John and Ashley played footy together at Port Adelaide and worked together during the golden era of the 80's and 90's.As for all of the kids, we all grew up together chasing footballs around Alberton and West Lakes, all believing we were the next Russell Ebert's.As it turned out, Darren was theone who excelled and played out our dreams of playing forthe Magpies in the SANFL he wore the #6 with pride and we loved seeing a mate of ours in the black and white, and become a Life Member of our great club.In recent years we crossed paths again but in an even better way.Darren had stolen the heart of our daughter/sister and they were set to live a wonderful, busy, crazy, life together, looking after 5 children a couple of mothers-in-law, dogs, cats, a snake (no joking here) and most importantly each other. As a family we could not have been happier for Julie and Darren. He was a great man with a work ethic and commitment to changing the lives around him, that was second to none.Great men make those around them better. They lead by example and stay true to their word. A shake of the hand was more important than any piece of paper and this was preachedto him for over 20 years. He lived this way. This was Darren. The McKay's have always been great friends. They are now and will always be family. To the entire McKay family, our hearts and love go outto you at this tragic time.To Julie, we will always be by your side, and your strength through this moment in time istypical of your character, love and loyalty. It's just one of the many, many reasons why we love you.To Georgia and Lachlan, you are always a part of our family now and we look forward to watching you both grow and follow in your father's many wonderful footprints. We were all lucky to have Puffain our lives and his generous nature and big heart will be missed by everyone and especially by SA License and Registration at Port Adelaide, who will miss his bi-weekly visits attempting to pass his boat license test. After setting a record for failed attempts apparently Puffa finally lucked out with his guessing and passed the test. Mind youthat was never officially confirmed so we have chosen to believe it a rumour. You will forever be in our thoughts and hearts,Darren, if you're driving that boat in Heaven remember to stick to the right, easy on the gas for the dry starts and remember to pick up the kids that fall off.Don't make them swim home.Rest in peace mate #6.The Cahill Family
