On the evening of the 4th of August at 7:15 pm, Melbourne Businessman Garry Francis Krauss AM passed away due to complications and ill health.

Garry is revered in many circles and none more than down Collins Street and the leafy suburbs of Melbourne.

Garry was highly successful in business in owning engineering company PROK (Production Equipment) that served the Mining Industry and other markets. This took Garry to Russia, United Arab Emirates, South America and South Africa for business well before these areas were accessible for business during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Garry was highly involved in an oil pipeline development in Saudi Arabia in the mid 1980’s.

Garry also single handily financed the Richmond Football Club out of Debt to the tune of $400,000 in 1985 to save it from near folding. He served on the board as Deputy Vice President and was awarded No.1 Ticket holder from 1988 – 2003.

Garry heavily invested into Compass Airlines, gave to businesses, invested in start-ups, supported political parties, and was very generous with his giving. Garry also brought one of the first desktop computers into Australia, and also one of the first briefcase phones.

A former VSO director, Garry became co-chairman of the small and self-funded Melbourne City Opera, and eventually founded The Production Company with Jeanne Pratt and was awarded a Member of the Order (AM) for his unselfish giving to the Arts.

Garry was an active member of The Australian Club in Melbourne, Former President of The West Brighton Club in Brighton, and the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club in Sorrento.

Garry gave to those in need and will be forever remembered for his generosity to others, he never sought the spotlight although very popular and revered by many. Garry was always attending Black Tie Functions with a Single Malt in one hand, and a Cigar in the other.

Much loved husband to Pru, father to Katie, Victoria and Anna, Grandfather to Harriette, Theodore, Maggie, Adelaide, Angus, Lilo and Goldie. Xx
