Doris Falidis-Nickolas’ poetry beautifully captures love, loss, and remembrance, offering comfort to those navigating grief.
Jim Johnstone from Ayr Scotland passed away on Tuesday 7/9/21. Jim was born in 1930 in Ayr and has been living in Brisbane Australia since 1963 s and spent most of his life as a Road Safety Instructor/Lecturer. He spent a couple of years as a Host on the Scottish Program at Radio 4EB-FM where every Thursday he would entertain his listeners to some great stories and music from their homeland. He loved his time there and missed it greatly when he retired. Jim's love of all things Scottish especially the poet Robert Burns featured heavily in his life. Jim had 3 children Doug, Murray, and Erica and two grand daughters Mary and Laura. The family would like to greatly acknowledge the wonderful Pauline Tait who cared for Jim in his last years, and the kind people at Tri Care Annerley who made Jim comfortable in the last 18 months.
My Heart’s in the Highlands
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer,
Chasing the wild-deer and following the roe,
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birthplace of Valour, the country of Worth,
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands forever I love.
Farewell to the mountains, high cover’d with snow,
Farwell to the straths and green valleys below,
Farewell to the forests and wild hanging woods,
Farewell to the torrents and loud pouring floods,
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer,
Chasing the wild deer and following the roe,
My heart’s in the highlands, wherever I go.
Robert Burns.
