JOHNSTON, Colin Travis
10-Jun-1931 - 23-Jun-2020
Trav Johnston (10/6/1931 - 23/6/2020) We sadly advise the passing of our founder Mr Colin Travis Johnston who died June 23rd 2020 aged 89 years. The last of the two founding partners of Nielsen & Johnston. A giant of a man in every way. Anyone who met him knew exactly his integrity, honesty, intelligence and great ability. You never doubted where you stood with Trav Johnston. He always told you the absolute truth. Customer, competitor or friend held him with greatest respect. A boy Soprano, a skilled and gifted athlete - played VFL football, pennant tennis and pennant golf at an elite level in Melbourne, his home town. He was gifted at everything he attempted. It was Trav Johnston who for the first time created a transport model to successfully deliver new furniture to retail stores in Tasmania without damage. Trav was the driving force behind the success of our Company and his ethic, creativity and tenacity is still present in most of the processes we will abide by today. Trav Johnston retired in 1999 but knew first hand right up to his death, the names of all our staff and continued to support and encourage us in any way he could. An awesome support and role model always. Trav had many great friends and clients in Tasmania who he always spoke fondly of, though most of them have passed away. Trav has had a magnificent life and he knew this truth for himself. He said it often. I trust our Company can live up to the exceptional standards set by Trav Johnston and trust we will continue to make him proud. RIP to a most exceptional man. Tracey Johnston and all Nielsen & Johnston staff, past and present. NIELSEN & JOHNSTON SPECIALIST TASMANIA CARRIERS A MEMORIAL FOR TRAV WILL BE HELD IN MELBOURNE POST COVID-19.
