We are sad to announce that Ellen Hanley
(nee Fennessy) died on
16 May 2025 at Maroondah Hospital.
She was born in Dublin Ireland to parents
Andrew and Ellen Fennessy (Murphy) on
18 May 1932.
Ellen travelled the world, moving firstly to England in the early 1950s to become a nurse, where she was trained as one of the first cancer nurses at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She moved to Melbourne Australia in 1963 and met her beloved husband Patrick in 1969.
Ellen is survived by her husband Patrick, children Margaret (Mags) and Andrew, daughter-in-law Clare and grandchildren Flynn and Kiera.
Ellen was one of seven siblings; Tess (dec.), Des (dec.), Fr. Andrew (dec.),
Sr. Bernadette (living in Dublin Ireland), Maureen (dec.) and John (dec.)
She will be missed by her in-laws in Victoria – Martin and Mary Hanley, and Audrey Hanley, Mike Kerrigan in Busselton WA, and Jacinta Fennessy in Vienna Austria.
She has many nieces and nephews from the Hanley and Fennessy families, who will miss her interest in their lives and conversations.
