Doris Falidis-Nickolas’ poetry beautifully captures love, loss, and remembrance, offering comfort to those navigating grief.
HANDLEY. Sr Mariana NDS. Many knew her as the nun in the white habit with the lovely open smile. The Association of Hebrew Catholics was formed in 1979 in Melbourne and is now worldwide. Since attending her first meeting in 1989, Sr Mariana has been actively involved in the Association, assuming the duties of the co- founder Andrew Sholl from 1991. For over 20 years she led and guided the Mt Tabor Havurah in knowledge and love for the Jewish people. At each monthly meeting she read the Jewish readings with such spirit. Before joining the Order, then June, she had a long association with Fish Creek and a much- loved horse, Minnie, which she rode to school. Minnie would race off down the home- paddock when June released her at the end of the day. However on the day before June entered the convent, Minnie started to cantor off down the paddock, then suddenly stopped and sensing the departure of June turned her head for a last look at June. We now look back on our memories of Sister Mariana s unique and deep love for the Jewish people. She would say: I love only one thing more than Fish Creek, the Jewish people. She never forgot that Jesus was, and still is, a Jew. Thank you Sister Mariana for sharing the feelings of your heart with us for so many years. Mt Tabor Havurah Association of Hebrew Catholics
