Beloved husband of Maggi (Marjorie), father of Jenny, Simon (Andrew), Martin, Ian, Graham, Robert and Lisa, and grandfather of 12
passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Austin Hospital
Despite being named Ernest he went by the name Peter, and was commonly known as Peter, Dr Peter and as Dr Peter Hadley
Peter studied medicine in the UK and graduated as a General Practitioner before joining the RAF as a doctor where he attained the rank of Flight Lieutenant, earned his pilot’s license, and learned scuba diving
Peter was assigned to Moreton in Marsh (UK) RAF airfield where he met and married Maggi (Marjorie) Sedgley
Peter and Maggi set off travelling the world after being married and Peter accepted a three-year role as hospital administrator and doctor at the Hospital on Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) commencing in 1959 where sons Martin Peter then Ian David were born
Upon returning to the UK Peter and Maggi decided to immigrate to Australia and Peter set off to Australia to find work and somewhere to live eventually settling in Melbourne, Victoria. Maggi remained in the UK where Graham was born in 1963, then in 1964 Maggi joined Peter in Melbourne where Robert was born.
Peter continued to reside in the house he bought in Coburg until his passing
Peter worked as a General Practitioner in Coburg, Faulkner and across Melbourne from 1964 until 2020 and during that time performed minor surgery, delivered many babies, he worked after hours doing medical calls to homes and to Pentridge prison and was a part time Doctor for the Sydney Swans football team. Peter was recognised in his field and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Peter’s public life included service to St John Ambulance where he was awarded the Order of St Johns Medal, a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Pascoe Vale and self-appointed photographer for many years, service as a councillor on the Coburg Council, and service as a member of the CFA at Whanregarwen VIC receiving the CFA Service Award
Peter enjoyed private time working on his farm where he tried various forms of farming including potato farming eventually establishing a pine plantation, he enjoyed gardening and especially pruning, enjoyed being a handyman at home and for others, and enjoyed all forms of photography using cameras and more recently mobile phones.
Peter loved using and working with computers, mobile phones and had a love for all sorts of tools, gadgets, and electronics.
Peter was dearly loved at home and in the community and we advise of his passing with the greatest of sadness
May he rest in peace, he will not be forgotten
