Alan was also a friend of the Aboriginal community to whom he dispensed his knowledge, warmth and wit throughout his life, but especially during his time as teacher and later headmaster at schools in Ali Curung and Tennant Creek, NT.

Many students and families whom he served in both the Territory and Adelaide will remember him fondly.

A polymath and forceful, funny friend of humanity, he will not be forgotten by those whom he knew.

May he rest in peace
