BATES, JohnIn loving memory of John Herbert Malcolm Bates, iconic Sydney Jazz Trombonist. John was a loving father to Malcolm and Jay and dedicated stepfather to Becky and Esther, he delighted in his role as "Grandpa John" to their children. His distinctive riffs and vocal styings were enjoyed locally and internationally in a musical career that stemmed over 60 years.He will be sadly missed by all, but most of all by his life partner, jazz partner and best friend Brenda Potter.Batsie has now joined the great big jazz band in the sky and will remain forever in our hearts.The Funeral Service for JOHN BATES will be held at Nelson Bros Funeral Chapel, 7 Droop Street, Footscray VIC on Wednesday 24th May, 2017 to commence at 1:00pm.
