Doris Falidis-Nickolas’ poetry beautifully captures love, loss, and remembrance, offering comfort to those navigating grief.
IVANCIC, Anton
Born in Golac, Slovenia on June 27, 1925. Passed away in Adelaide, S.A. on May 28, 2021. Aged 95 years. Respected husband of Jolanda (deceased). Most treasured father of Anita and Marino. Cherished ’Nono’ to Isabella and Joshua. Respected father-in-law of Bill. Dad, I remember your words to me, “Be strong”. At your side, I learned what love and courage were. We laughed and cried together. Dad, you don’t need to be strong any more. Sleep in peace. Anita. Mercifully free at last from the prison your body had become. You hung on for so long just to stay with us. We grieve your loss but rejoice in your liberation. Love always, Marino. Nono, words can’t describe how much I miss you, but I know your spirit is always with us, watching over us. Thanks for all you’ve done, holding my hand to the very end. I promise I will make you proud. Love always, until we meet again. Isabella. Love you Nono, hopefully we’ll meet again. Thanks for all the lessons and guidance through life. You will always be my inspiration and motivation. Love you mate! Joshua. Nono, from the first time we met, you made me feel very welcome and I felt I became part of the Slovenian family. As I look around our house, your handy work will keep you near us always. Bill. Special thanks to our family GP, Dr. Peter Donohoe, for his extraordinary effort. Words cannot express our gratitude to all the staff at Flora McDonald Lodge for the daily embrace of generosity and kindness that lifted us from the depths. Our deepest love and gratitude go to Stric Mike, Teta Mela and Anne for embodying core family values and always being there for us.
