The Judges of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory acknowledge with sadness the recent passing of Jack Karczewski KC.
Jack made a major contribution to the administration of justice in the Northern Territory over many years. He held office as the Director of Public Prosecutions between 2013 and 2021 after working as a Crown Prosecutor in the Northern Territory since 1984.
He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2001.
Jack was also a member of the Bar Council from 2000 to 2019, a member of the Executive of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association from its inception in 1986 to 2008, a member of the Council of Law Reporting from its inception in 1992 until 2021, and a Wing Commander in the Royal Australian Air Force Specialist Reserve (Legal) between 1987 and 2013.
We extend our thoughts and condolences to Jack’s wife, Anna, and to his three children.
