Dula Zacharia, my mother, taken from us too soon and unexpectedly.

You were my world!

I have shared nearly every day with you in the last five years since dad’s passing. You needed me, and I was there for you.

You were a wonderful and generous mother and grandmother!

And you adored your great grandchild. We have had so many fun times altogether.

The world saw you as the glamorous woman you always were!

You were a role model for so many young women. People gravitated towards you with your infectious smile and your warm personality. I loved all those things about you. But you and I loved our quiet times together. Our drives to the beach, our daily coffee time and our conversations.

We had a closeness that many could only dream of.

The four days in hospital with Lee and Michael was a special time. Your final days with us right by your side, holding your hand and stroking your forehead. We didn’t leave you for a minute. We prayed that you could come back to us but it wasn’t to be.

So this means that I will miss you every day for the rest of my life.  I am not sure if I can comprehend a life without Dula Zacharia. A unique, generous and beautiful woman - my mother.

Love your daughter

Always and Forever

Helena

This is quite simply the most difficult and excruciating task I have ever had to do, to describe the sudden loss of my beautiful mother, friend and confidante.

A vibrant, loving and classy person who had the most genuine and warm personality that allowed her to make lifelong friends out of people she had just met, an incredible and genuine gift.

You were loved by so many as you loved them, you just never saw the bad in people only the positives and you lit up every room you entered.

Our hearts are truly broken as this was never meant to be, so sudden with so many plans for the future and it's even sadder that 2020 robbed us of that family trip you were so looking forward to this year when we all could have been together again with your truly loving family.

You were the most generous and giving person I know.

Your grandchildren Rebecca, William, Katherine and Ella are devastated and their grief is simply too hard to bear especially not being able to feel the love and warmth you gave them 100% of the time ever again.

They miss their Yiayia so much already but you will always be in their hearts. This is just so sad.

Sharon is full of grief and disbelief that her wonderful mother-in-law has gone so soon.

We all know you had a wonderful life but this tragedy has taken you away from all of us in such an unfair way.

You took your last breath in the most elegant, graceful and dignified way, so typical of how you lived your life, there will never be another Dula Zacharia.

Mum I just can’t stop the tears and I have never felt the pain and hurt I am feeling now, I miss you so badly and it’s only been a day since you passed.

Your loving son Lee, daughter-in-law Sharon,

Grandchildren Rebecca, William, Katherine and Ella.

"You are now reunited with the love of your life Bill again, but try not to keep everyone up too late in Heaven"

It is with such sadness and a heavy heart, that our mother Dula Zacharia passed away so unexpectedly on Monday 30th November 2020

This lady was full of life and dedicated every waking moment to her kids. She was the mother of Michael, mother in law of Kim, and grandmother of Sam, Zoe, Gia and Alexa

From walking the streets of her birth town Rhodes in Greece, to Waymouth St in Adelaide, the dirt roads of Port Pirie, or where she finally lived in Fitzroy for the last 60 years, mum was always oozing glamour, style, class, elegance and sophistication. Whenever she entered a room it would always be brighter and happier. Everyone wanted to talk to her and everyone liked her. She loved being the centre of attention, and always got it. She was a magnet for conversation and smiles.

Mum was well and vivacious up to the very end, and died peacefully in a sophisticated, elegant manner. We could not have asked for a better way to finish such a wonderful life.

She will be remembered by all of us by the love she had for everyone of the family, the smile she beamed when we walked into the little back sun room, the hugs she gave that she didn’t want to stop, and the kisses that left the indelible smell of her wonderful perfume on your body for ages.

We miss you so much, the sudden loss is tragic, however 88 healthy years and leaving a tight, vibrant, loving extended family is your legacy.

Say hi to dad somewhere.
