10 July 1928 to 17 January 2020
The Minear Family wish to advise that our treasured patriarch and companion passed away peacefully in his sleep at Alwyndor Nursing Home on 17 January 2020, aged 91 years.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Alwyndor for their incredible compassion and care of Harold in his final months.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Deirdre, who kept him smiling and laughing right up until the end, his children David, Anne, Cate, Stephen, Mary-Jane, Helen and Johanna, their partners Vicki, Hayden, Maria, John and Graham, his 15 grandchildren and their partners, and his 12 great-grandchildren, and has now been reunited with his great mate and son Martin.
Harold was an acclaimed journalist, advertising executive and writer but his first love and passion was always the theatre. He was the heart and soul of St Jude’s Players at Brighton and an institution in the South Australian arts scene for more than 70 years – an achievement of which we as a family are incredibly proud.
To those who knew him, Harold was a gentleman, a mentor, a confidant, a teacher, a teller of great stories and an exceptionally wonderful laughing partner.
But above all else, Harold was our true friend.
Saint Mary Mackillop once said that “gratitude is the memory of the heart”.
It is safe to say our collective hearts are filled to overflowing with thanks for the gift of this wonderful man.
God Bless Harold, you are one act that can never be followed.
We’ll always remember to smile.
