The Board and broader VRC team were saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs Sally Chirnside.
Sally made history by becoming the first woman to be elected to the Victoria Racing Club Committee in its then 127 year history. Sally was elected on 16 July 1991 and served 11 years until her retirement on 26 April 2002. This also made Sally the first female to ever be elected to a Principal Racing Club in Australia.
Sally will be remembered by all involved at the Victoria Racing Club and the thoroughbred racing industry, as a woman who broke the glass ceiling with determination, dignity, passion and a sense of grace. She will be sadly missed at Flemington.
Our condolences are extended to the Chirnside Family.
